Sharing: Power & Responsiblity

by on January 26, 2012

The smartphone power many hold in the palm of their hand comes with great sharing responsibility responsibility. Every day emails, tweets, posts, likes and pictures bombard our attention. It takes seconds to fire off an email, post a picture to Facebook or instagram, or share the latest YouTube video. This power comes with responsibility. The ease of sharing leaves out an important consideration:

  • Should you post?
  • What’s the goal?
  • What benefit will your intended audience gain?
  • Do you even have an intended audience?

I love photo sharing sites. The community, immediacy and education are quite beneficial for me. Imagine a world where, instead of people sharing every single picture they thought was cool, that instead they share only the BEST of what they created. This is subjective to be sure, but consider the impact of deliberate sharing. Considered sharing. Sharing the best, on purpose. What would happen to quality? What would happen to the standards of the community over all?

Now some of us do this, but I ask what if we ALL did?
