I Don’t Read Books

At lunch today I was chatting with a friend about books.

If you haven’t read Sheryl Sandberg’s “Lean In”, it’s cool. Neither have I. In fact, most of the people we’ve seen displaying that book in their offices haven’t read it either.

In 2019 i’ve read 22 books so far.

Weird flex, I know.

What is even stranger is this…

With most of my friends, and at work, reading is about the least impressive thing you can do.

Everyone is wearing that “I’m too busy” badge. No one has the time.

This is the exact same crowd that would NOT stop talking about Game of Thrones Season 8.

The internet says the run time of the last season is 432 minutes.

That’s 7.2 hours.

You could read a 300 page book in less time.

“But Sean! Reading is HARD…”

True, true.

But riddle me this… is reading hard, or is it just hard for you?

I get it. My attention span isn’t my friend as I get older. I forget my point mid sentence. Look for hours for the keys that are in my hand.

But on the days I really need to focus, lock down and get it done, Gorilla mind has saved my bacon.

That, and realizing if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.
