I love 3×5 cards almost as much as I love human performance. I’ve been thinking about how to best maximize my life potential and progress.
Mastery of systems, efficient task management, all of these things are important but what’s the driving force for doing anything?
I’d like to suggest the best way to light a fire in your life is to demonstrate that it is already on fire, you just need to do something about it.
At the time of this writing, I’m 36. I’ve never really thought much about it. I feel good, no really odd aches or pains. Life is grand.
I was wasting time on Facebook recently when I came across this site the breaks out your life in weeks, months and years.
Naturally, I took half a 3×5 card and made my own.
That’s when it hit me. If I take my expected lifespan, well, I’m 47% done.
Rounding up. That’s half.
How To Get Your Life On A 3×5 Card
- 3×5 card
- Writing tool
- Draw out a simple grid, 10 columns of boxes(or circles, whatever) by 9 rows
- Fill in each ear that you’ve been alive
- Mark your expected lifespan
- Look at it, and let that sink in
I keep this card in my wallet now. I look at it every day as a reminder that years are made of days, days made of moments. Moments are made of now. You only have so much to spend. How are you spending yours? Are you spending them on your goals?
If that doesn’t give you a sense of urgency about WHATEVER is important to you.
Get busy living.
